KZE’s Parlour Session with Chris Smither took place on Friday, May 25th from noon-1 pm. His 18th and newest record “Call Me Lucky“, is arguably his best and features his first set of brand new originals in six years. The performance took place in the Historic Elmendorph Inn, next door to the KZE Studios, a full hour of commercial-free live music. Congratulations to the many lucky winners of a pair of guest passes who got to be part of the live audience!

Q: What do you do at KZE?
A: I’m the host of Movin’ & Groovin’ on Saturday nights from 7-9. I’m also on the air Sunday afternoons from 12-5.

Q: What do you do when you’re not working at KZE?
A: When I’m not at KZE I like to hike, bike, kayak, snowboard, and snowshoe all over the Hudson Valley.

A: Most useless talent would be knowing useless trivia.

A: When I’m having a bad day I put on some great tunes to turn that mood around.

A: I wouldn’t trade places with anyone, I prefer to live my own life.

A: Music = Magic

A: I collected comic books when I was a kid, does that count?

A: Update the Arts Calendar & spin music on Saturdays from 10-2.

Q: What do you do when you’re not working at KZE?
A: Momma bliss: reading a ton of books out loud, living room dance parties, kitchen science experiments, watching nature unfold & generally gazing the world through fresh eyes.

Q: What’s your favorite ice cream flavor?
A: Can I say fruit, since I’m abstaining from goodies? Apricots and or Saturn peaches popped off of their pits fresh and warm from the trees at Montgomery Place Orchards.

Q: Do you have any pets?
A: An ant colony.

Q: What’s the most useless talent you have?
A: Peeling fruit jackets in one single strand.

Q: When you’re having a bad day, what do you do to make yourself feel better?
A: Take a bath while listening to The Smiths.

KZE Made the Cover!

Thank you to David Schell of Green Kill in Kingston for featuring 98.1 KZE on the front and back cover of their March 2018 Broadsheet! It’s a monthly poetry booklet Green Kill publishes and provides for free in coffee shops and other places people gather and read. It was a pleasure to meet David and have him visit our studios in Red Hook. Who knew our Production Studio was so photogenic?!

Green Kill is an art and performance space located in the heart of the Hudson Valley, on Green Kill Avenue near the Route 32 intersection. Owned by David Schell and Yuriko Sasamoto, Green Kill’s mandate is beautifully summarized by Gwendolyn Brooks, an African-American poet and teacher and a winner of the Pulitzer Prize for her book of poetry “Annie Allen”, “We are each other’s harvest; we are each other’s business; we are each other’s magnitude and bond.”
